~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This Week @ The Lake is starting to thin out with sports coming to an end but still enough for the Hawk Nation to take note first giving a shout out to CLake’s Softball team who reached the playoffs and will be playing this Friday at Cedar Park taking on Lago Vista who finished first in District 25-4A.
There was one common opponent….Marble Falls who beat Canyon Lake but these Mustangs were beaten by the Vikings.
It will be a one game playoff for a chance to advance into the Area Round. Let’s Go Lake!
Baseball needed a split in their series against Fredericksburg by winning their Friday must-win game, 14-6. This game had a lot of bats producing multi run innings which will set the stage for The Lake needing to sweep Bandera…a loss will eliminate the Hawks. Some scoreboard watching will be a pastime for Hawk fans who will be rooting for Navarro in hopes they will be able to sweep the Billies.
Be Authentic with your Hawk Gear & LET’s GO LAKE!
It is a simple math needing to sweep and your counterpart needing to be swept. If those ingredients come to fruition then Canyon Lake will have a play-in contest with Fredericksburg this Saturday. That will be known as soon as possible for Hawk fans to make plans for that hopeful moment.
The Lady Hawk Track Team finished 2nd place at their Region Meet in Kingsville and will now have a good contingent of Ladies still training for their final season meet in Austin.
That State Meet will be May 1st and The ReSporter will have an article later this week to help set the stage on what this Hawk team will need in order to finish this season strong.
Also, notice on the above dates, Mountain Valley MS Softball and Baseball will start their short season with an away game at Smithson Valley MS on Thursday and then will be at the Hawk Nest this coming Saturday with games starting at 10am.
A good week for The Lake!
Hawk Baseball Still has a Chance After, 14-6 Win over Billies
Monday, April 21st, 2025
Carter Williams was perfect from the batting box going 5 for 5 with 2 doubles an a homer in, 14-6 win over Billies. Go Hawks & Beat Bandera!
                      Way to Go Lake!!
Canyon Lake came into their Friday night contest against Fredericksburg with a need to win or go home situation. A preface of this being a playoff atmosphere to have a chance of making the postseason.
The game was a success for a Hawk team that had been in the doldrums since that first pitch to start district play that had this Lake team without a win. CLake had scored 15 runs in their 7 district games and decided to break out of this prolonged slump amassing 14 runs leaving no doubt scoring 12 runs in those first three frames of this game.
Carter Williams was the big man on campus going 5 for 5 that had 2 doubles and a home-run scoring 4 runs.
        Way to Make us Proud Hawks!!
Williams also produced on the mound after surrendering the first run after CL was sitting on a 12 run advantage. The Hawks still have a fielding problem tho seeing 6 runs scored and only one of those scores being earned.
But on this night Fredericksburg one upped the Hawks committing 6 errors which was 4 more than Canyon Lake had received in their previous 7 district outings.
Michael Anderson continued his hot bat with 2 doubles, 2 rbi’s, and 2 runs…in fact, Anderson (.762) still has a slugging percentage higher than Williams (.700) in district play.
MVMS Baseball & Softball starts April 24th 630pm! GO LAKE!
This win will have your Hawks doing some window watching as a playoff has two more hurdles to clear to realize this opportunity. The Billies will need to lose both of their games with Navarro to end the regular season while, The Lake, still has to take care of business in beating Bandera this week.
A road game on Tuesday and then their final home game with the Bulldogs this Friday.
If these hurdles are cleared then both teams will have a one game play-in contest this Saturday.
At least, there is a chance, to barrow that iconic movie phrase from (Dumber and Dumber) for those who were alive back in 1994.
Way to GO LAKE and Beat the Bulldogs!!
Be Authentic with your Hawk Gear & LET’s GO LAKE!
Track & Field will take a strong group to Kingsville this weekend for a Regional Meet with those Field Events commencing Thursday followed with the finals for running on Saturday. The only running event that counts will be the 3200 meter run that has Tristan Schenk and Eva Zabarcencu competing for a chance to make Austin.
The skinny for this year’s Softball & Baseball as the regular season comes to a close.
Softball will have their final two games this week and then getting ready for their first post-season date since 2021 the next week.
                               GO LAKE!
Fredericksburg and Bandera are the softball teams this week for sweep but a better chance to break even with a win over Bandera. A win to end district would be a good way to enter the playoff season.
At this time, Canyon Lake will be pitted against Lago Vista for their Bi-District contest.
Baseball is a little more complicated because the hard-ball teams play one school each week on a home and away schedule.
Fredericksburg is two games ahead of The Lake with two wins over Bandera and being swept by Wimberley and Navarro thus far.
                                Go Lake!
Canyon Lake has been swept by Wimberley-Navarro-Davenport and after this week’s schedule with the Billies finish with Bandera.
The Hawks will need to have at least a split this week and a sweep of Bandera to end with a play-in contest with a tie. A Hawk sweep this week and next week would give CLake a playoff bid without any fuss.
The ReSporter did a deep dive into each school’s non-district schedule and which team had a tougher schedule.
         Teams Played  Schools beat  Team’s Dist   Above .500
         Winning %     Winning Rec     Record      Schools %
CL Hawks   .466             3        76-84  .475   69-34-3  .665 .
Billies    .403             4        55-69  .443   84-43-0  .661
Canyon Lake did play a much tougher schedule but with a 6 game losing streak, how this Hawk team will do can be based on what is between two ears.
MVMS Baseball & Softball starts April 24th 630pm! GO LAKE!
Certainly a decent chance but a better fielding team would be priority #1 as that stat leads to more runs and adds pitches to that pitcher on the mound.
The Lake has a .227 team batting average in district games while averaging 2 runs per outing while CL’s pitching is presently with a 4.31 earned run average (era).
All of those variables has led to a less than stellar start when you see those first three innings with the opposition scoring 23 runs while Canyon Lake has scored 9 to counter. Just 4 runs scored through the 4th-7th innings.
The Lake needs to revert to the beginning of the year that had a better vibe which translated to wins.
Canyon Lake’s Gold team finished their Season with the Best Record for this Classification…Way to Go Hawks!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Be Authentic with  Hawk Gear & LET’s GO LAKE!

A mixed bag of results from the past week that had Softball split their two games with an important win over Bandera and then a tough set-back with Wimberley in a one run loss.

That Bulldog win left The Lake with 2 wins putting them in a 4th place slot and if that could be duplicated during the next two weeks a playoff berth. CLake road game on Tuesday could solidify a spot with a win over Navarro that would finish a sweep of the Panthers and the separation needed for that final post-season berth.

Baseball continued in their swoon losing their two game series with Navarro. Canyon Lake has another tough two game stretch this week that begins on the road at Davenport before that return battle at the Hawk Nest. A split or sweep would be needed….big time in realizing a chance to get back in the middle of a race for a good seeding.

CL’s Gold~Green teams continue their maturation with the Green Squad pitted against Navarro while the Gold Hawks will have a double-header with the Billies on Saturday starting at 11am.

Track & Field took the Gold at district last week with a comeback win over Fredericksburg coming out on top with a 3 point win, 150-147. It was the Ladies 3rd Meet win this year and first ever district conquest.

          Way to Make us Proud Hawks!

Playoff’s for track will begin this Thursday at Wimberley when District 26-4A will be competing against District 25-4A with the top 4 of each of those events continue their trek for a date in Kingsville April, 18-19th.

Jacob Price was the only boy trackster able to qualify for the Area competition with a 40-10.25 for the Triple Jump event.

For the Ladies, there were several that will be trekking to Wimberley and The ReSporter will have another article before Thursday Meet.

                              GO LAKE!

It was a good week for the Lake with Baseball scoring in double digits in all their wins and a just missed opportunity in a, 3-2 loss to State Ranked New Braunfels.

This week Baseball will start district with games against Wimberley.

The Softball team was able to even their district record after taking Navarro to the wood shed in their, 10-3 win over the Panthers. This week it will be @ Davenport on Tuesday and @ the Billies on Friday.

Golf will be in action on Monday in Fredericksburg as the Hawks will get familiar where one round will be played for District further down the road.

Track & Field will be competing at the Texans Relays in Wimberley and a good chance to catch a group of talented Hawks.

                        Let’s Go Lake!

Another headliner will go to this week’s Area Round of playoffs for the Lady Hawk’s Soccer team when they go to Lehman High School to take on Floresville with the start time 7:00pm.

Soccer beat Gateway last week, 6-1 and will look to continue their post-season schedule with another win this Tuesday.

============================

Wayen Slania-Wertz had 2 doubles & homerun in a Hawk win this week.

Canyon Lake started playing against varsity competition during the 2007-08 year and for that Hawk Baseball team they played very few games.

However, that short season did produce for CLake a record that had stood for 17 years. The Lake outscored San Marcos Academy by 24 runs in a shut-out victory. Well, that minute record is now in the past (pardon the pun) when the Hawks scored 27 runs in a win over Gonzales, 27-4. That 2008 season still has a record winning by 24 runs but the amount of runs now belongs to this year’s squad.

This Spring Break week had 4 consecutive contests starting Monday through Friday’s win as Coach Escamilla said, “I would rather play games than practice.”

CLHS will go into district play this Tuesday at Wimberley with an, 13-4-1 record. Baseball has 3 elements that compose, hitting (offense), fielding (defense), and pitching.

Canyon Lake has done well in two of those 3 elements except for their fielding which showed up in this win by producing 3 errors. To put that in perspective, CL has given up 51 runs and bout half (25 runs) has been earned. The rest came as a result of errors which certainly will play a much more pivotal aspect of wins and losses when competing against district brethren.

                    Let’s Go Hawks!!

Canyon Lake scored double digit in 3 of the 4 games this week with that one loss to state ranked New Braunfels where 2 runs came across the plate for the Hawks.

Looking at this year’s district opponents on the Standings graph above will show every school with a winning record and that magnifying glass being a tad closer in hopes of having a chance for a post-season season.

Last year, The Lake broke their, no-go to playoff streak, that your Hawks had crafted for 3 seasons during the year after the Wuhan Covid outbreak came right before district and wasting an awesome, 12-2 record collecting cobwebs. (2021-2023 seasons)

                              Go Lake!

This year, district contests will have 2 games for each school which had been 3 games per school. Another change for the better will have those two games during the same week instead of doing a more traditional round-robin schedule.

In this win over Gonzales, Canyon Lake had 19 hits and 11 of those went extra bases. Carter Williams had two homers a double for 8 rbi and Wayen Slania-Werts had two doubles and a homerun.

In the one run loss to New Braunfels, Williams was on the mound and struck-out 13 Unicorns and gave up 5 hits. The Lake was close to pulling an upset except for those little things that were presented but not being able to increase a lead. It was errors that also contributed to this outcome. Hence, in facing district games for the rest of this season needing to be held to a minimum.

It was a good week of ‘Practice’ and now it will be time to perform with a new purpose that eluded this team last year.

Canyon Lake’s Green answered a Comfort 2 run first inning with a 3 spot the bottom of that same frame for a back and forth affair that had these Visitors tying the score in the top of the 2nd and 4th innings before a Hawk final 2 runs for a time ending win, 8-6.

CJ Rodriguez had a strike-out pitch and (finished with 8) but the flip side showed 5 walks and one hit batter allowing Comfort to put enough players on base to score runs and keep this game close.

Max Ross and Tate Heckman started the bottom of the first with walks before a Brenan Hughes single drew first blood that jettisoned a one run lead and then a Hughes score on a wild pitch giving The Lake a, 3-2 lead.

Comfort would not make this game comfortable tho when they scored a tying run in that 2nd frame without a hit. This menu had two walks a hit batter followed by an error for that score.

The Lake would grab the lead back when Cade Johnson singled and advanced to second on an error. Two passed balls later the Hawks had their lead back.

Be Authentic with your Hawk Gear & LET’s GO LAKE!

Pitcher Rodriguez got his groove back in that 3rd inning by striking out the side with 11 pitches (9 for strikes) for a quick…good morning—good afternoon—and goodnight for these Bobcat hitters.

Canyon Lake worked two more runs on their at bat when Catcher Greysen Patton had a one pitch hit (his second hit this game) and scored when Rodriguez singled two batters later.

Dalton Hodges followed by taking one for the team (hbp)…then Cade Johnson single produced two insurance runs.

          Way to Stay in Shape Hawks!

CLHS would use those insurance runs for a win the next inning after these Visitors tied the game again scoring 3 runs helped by 3 Hawk errors while sending 9 batters to the plate.

CLake used 3 pitchers to help put out the fire when Reliever Jace McGoldrick, with the bases loaded, struck out that final Bobcat on four pitches.

Canyon Lake would put their finishing touches on this contest when Rowan Edwards drew a walk to start the final inning which was followed by a scorcher triple off the bat of Hughes for what would eventually be the winning run.

The Hawks would score again before the game was called due to time constraints.

It was the 9th win this season as those upcoming games will feature district battles now for a team with high expectations.

                        GO HAWKS!!

The Hawk’s Soccer team will start their post-season this Friday at Johnson Hays against Gateway College Prep (17-4-1) where in District 25 finished 2nd place behind Burnet.

The Lake did not finish how they would have liked in losing to Davenport but those memories will need to be short-lived with those important post-season contests come calling this week.

For the rest of this week it will be sports that specializes with balls & bats with CL’s Baseball playing four consecutive days starting on Tuesday on the road at San Antonio Cole with a 12 Noon first pitch.

Canyon Lake will have two home games on Wednesday (Comfort @ 6:30p) and Friday (Gonzales @ 2:00p) with a 5A New Braunfels squad at their house this coming Thursday.

Hopefully a good week that can produce some answers for who solidifies a spot for those Tuesday & Friday’s contests. Pitching will be one of those opening positions with how the defense will be placed on who might win that #2 pitching spot.

Softball started their district play with a loss to Wimberley last Friday and now will see if they might be able to get in the win column when Navarro comes to the Hawk Nest on Friday with a 12 Noon first pitch.

A slow week that will pick up speed the next week on Monday 24th when CL’s Golf plays at Lady Bird Golf Course in Fredericksburg.

Let’s Go Lake!

Hit Man says way to get rid of those Pests Hawks!

Canyon Lake got back on a winning streak now at two games this week and will enjoy their Spring Break with 4 consecutive day games starting on the road at SA Cole~~Home Comfort~~Road New Braunfels~~Home Gonzales.

A Unicorn match-up will be a telling game based on making the playoffs and as teams progresses,  games become harder. That would put this contest for an idea of how your Hawks might fair against a NB team that has an 11-2 season record and is 2-1 in district outings thus far.

The Lake beat a 6-3 team last Friday scoring in all but one inning while amassing 12 hits beating Crystal City, 12-5.

Ryder Hopper ran his record to 4-0 with this win allowing 2 hits and one unearned run in his 4 innings of work.

                         Go Hawks!

Hayes Holladay pitched the final 3 innings for a save with 2 unearned runs coming across the plate.

Those unearned runs will be one of the major needs to improve as those mistakes could cost a district victory.

Canyon Lake blew this game wide open in their final at bat scoring 4 runs on 3 hits. Ryan Rena had the big hit with a double that was followed by an rbi single off the bat for Gavin Baldera.

Three hits for Bryce May and Michael Anderson and all the players who made an appearance reached base during this outing.

                      Let’s Go Lake!

CL’s district has all these schools with a better than .500 record with perennial power Navarro at the top of the list with just one loss along with their 10 wins.

Davenport has played the toughest schedule and should be a major hurdle this year as well as always tough Wimberley.

Fredericksburg is standing in with a stellar, 12-3 record and will coming into district play loaded with a lot of confidence.

Bandera proved last year they could get a district win which happened against Canyon Lake which tells you that taking a day off for any team will not be a recipe for garnering a conquest.

“I think we are set for our first district game for Tuesday,” Head Coach Victor Escamilla stated. “We have to have a line-up for our Friday district ball game…We have to get some action and have someone step up on the mound who wants to become our number two and once we find that person then we will fill in those defensive spots behind him.”

Coach Escamilla continued talking bout CL’s defense and hitting part of the game, “On the fielding part, we have to do a better job and on the hitting part… we are not adjusting to the off speed pitches and we’re trying to yank it and we know better than and we need to learn to go the other way and once we start hitting the right-center gap then we are doing good.”

Four games in four days will play like a tournament week without playing back to back contests.

This week will have a lot riding on the progress as a road game against Wimberley will be here soon and an, all hands on deck,  with players assigned being ready for having a productive district results.

Make it Work Hawks!!

Baseball: Lake Produce a Clean Win over Antonian Apaches, 6-0

Thursday, March 13th, 2025

Canyon Lake’s Baseball shook off the cobwebs as their last 6 games the Lake had been treading water and needed to dry off with a win to get back on track with district season just around the corner.

                          Let’s Go Hawks!!

The Hawks had a 2-3-1 record through this part of their schedule and a contest against another quality opponent needed a complete win which this, 6-0 victory accomplished.

PITCHING: Carter Williams (4-0) pitched another gem allowing one hit while striking out 10 Apache’s. A sparkling 0.26 earned run average with only 7 hits in William’s last 27 innings of work.

FIELDING: One miscue at the end of this game which did not allow an earned run for a clean ending. Of CL’s 34 runs allowed only 19 have been earned.

HITTING: Twelve hits being placed into Left-Center-Right Field giving Antonian’s defense plenty of action. Don’t forget that, ‘couldn’t have been placed at a better place,’  bunt (Gram Simpson) and power coming off the bat of Williams with two screamers that had a triple that led to the only run that would be needed in this conquest that other screamer finished as a double.

It was that Williams triple in the bottom of the 3rd frame that scored Hayes Holladay from first base and with a one out Ryder Hopper single scoring that 2nd run.

                      Way to Go Lake!!

Canyon Lake was not finished tho… with 2 outs a Simpson single set up a first and third steal of home plate for Hopper before that final out on the base paths when Simpson was caught in a rundown and the Hawk’s had a, 3-0 lead.

The top of the 4th inning Antonian’s only hit was stranded when Williams finished this inning striking out the last two batters throwing 11 pitches with 9 of those in the strike zone.

The Lake would coax single run in their last three innings which put those finishing touches for a complete game that will hopefully set up CLHS with a runway for next week’s Spring Break  that will be crafted with chances to get a winning streak and fine tuning of those little things needed for a successful district schedule.

But before next week, The Lake, will be back in action this Friday with a 6:30pm first pitch against Crystal City. Keep it CLEAN Hawks!

Let’s Go Lake!
