CL Girls Win first Tournament in Victory over Blanco, 30-28
Canyon Lake Lady Hawks won their first Basketball Tournament in front of their home crowd, beating Blanco Panthers, 30-28.
The Hawks jumped out to a six point lead to start this game holding Blanco scoreless with a little over two minutes to play in the first quarter.
CL was ahead up until only 43 seconds were left in the first half.
Blanco would extend that lead to five points to start the second half and then the Twin Towers took this game over.
Amber Ramsey and Katie Williams would be instrumental for the Hawks as they dominated offensively scoring every point in the second half.
Blanco was able to keep the lead up until Ramsey found Williams inside the free throw line, where Williams would score giving the Hawks their first lead since the second quarter.
Blanco had 14 points adding up their first, third, and fourth quarters combined. In the Panther’s second quarter they matched that total, which helped in giving CL a catch up mode for much of this game.

Quick math will tell you how these two ladies dominated the paint on both sides of the court.
That dominance was a key when only two other Hawks would score in this game.
“We have a really good connection,” Williams started. “Especially with our high and low.”
Williams was commenting on how she plays with Ramsey underneath the offensive side of the gym.
“We have the ‘eye’ for each other,” Ramsey intertwined. “It’s going to be good for district and it shows how hard we need to work.”
“A game like this will build confidence and help us go through other games…this felt good to win our first tournament at home, especially for the Seniors,” Williams jumped in.
Canyon Lake is now nine games over .500 and only needs one more win to tie a record set by that 2009 team.
CL needed a comeback while trailing with only one more half of competition left.
“We talked about leadership on the floor and they (Williams and Ramsey) emerged,” Head Coach Mary Beth Gallagher said. “It is fitting they came up. An important steal helped set this game up.”
“We were not on our game but we showed a lot of heart and when that happens, then a lot of good things can happen.”
Many good things did happen and now Canyon Lake will go on the road and play a tough Devine team next Tuesday.
The Hawks next home game will be against Bandera on January 8th.
