Hawks Finish UP in Win over Wimberley, 9-7
Canyon Lake JV beat Wimberley for the fourth time this season as they take 3rd Place in District
27-3A, 9-7.In a phrase, Canyon Lake Owns the Wimberley Texans this season as this game gave the Hawks their fourth win over their friends from the north.
CL gift wrapped six errors and five walks and still did more little things right which helped in giving an edge to the Hawks.
More enthusiasm seemed to be a common theme among the players and coaches.
“After Thursday’s games they were geared up today,” Head JV Coach Brian Owens said. “Yes, we had a few errors, but we were ready to rock when they got off the bus.”
“They (Hawks baseball team) figured it out on Thursday and I’m not a chanting Coach, but when they used that to get fired up then I will just let them go at it…when they got off the bus they wanted to play with enthusiasm.”
The break out inning happened in the fourth with four runs and giving CL a lead that would not be taken for the rest of this windy but beautiful day.
Gordon McCleary reached on an error to start off that inning and then was followed by a single from Nick Kissell.
With two batters on and one out, Hayden Lee hit a line drive through the infield and started the flood gates for Canyon Lake.
Austin Headrick helped to put the finishing touches with a single to drive in the last run for that inning.
Wimberley had single digit runs in their first four innings but the Hawks put a three spot up for the last inning to give them the breathing room needed to end this with another win over a team they own.
Kyle Krohn had several plays at third base during those middle innings helping to give the defense some much needed outs.
“We set our minds to do our best and to get it going,” Third baseman Krohn started. “We wanted to kick their butt all season and this will help us to leave a legacy to continue beating Wimberley.”
Jonathan McGuire has also been very instrumental as this season has progressed and scored a run with eight other Hawk players in this game.
“All year they (Wimberley) are our biggest competitor,” McGuire quipped. “We have had some ups and downs this season and we got to end this season getting a win.”
“We will have a lot of people spending the Summer working and next year we will be a better team,” said a player that just finished third in district.
The Hawks had a up and down year in every way except against Wimberley as they were mostly UP as they needed this team to play to get four wins.
Now we will see who gets Up for the Varsity next season good luck.
