Lady Hawks improve to 5-0 after Win over Luling
Canyon Lake scored 15 points in their first quarter with only needing one more point to
score more than Luling would have in their whole game.
In fact, the Lady Hawks did score more than Luling in each quarter after that first stanza and coasted to a 53 point win.
“We were able to work on a lot,” Head Coach Mary Beth Gallagher said. “Everyone got good playing time.”
Luling was the type of opponent you can judge how the team has progressed, but it does allow the coaches another game of assessing how much improvement has transpired.
In an earlier game to start this season, CL had a similar game with Johnson City when many of their players were still involved with Volleyball playoffs.
“This game gave us an opportunity to work offensively on a few wrinkles we are trying to put in,” Coach Gallagher summed up. “This was similar to the Johnson City game where everyone got substantial minutes, each group of five players getting half a quarter all game.”
Bailey Drum was the hot Hawk on this night with a double-double scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds.
“With everyone getting so many minutes it was amazing that Bailey (Drum) would get 20 points with that amount of time played,” Coach Gallagher closed. “We still have a long way to come and need to get better on defense, we will need to be solid tight in district.”
Canyon Lake improved to 5-0 for the season and will be in action again next week with a game with Schertz John Paul and then finishing with the Johnson City Tournament starting on Thursday.
