Canyon Lake Boy’s Basketball started District 28-4A with a win over Hondo last Friday and put an end to their 2 game losing streak.
The Hawks will be facing Fredericksburg this Tuesday on the road and the Billies had their way over Bandera with a run-a-way 73-22 victory on Friday, as this game’s winner, will be on top of the heap in the early part of the district schedule.
Boerne is the favorite to win District 28-4A and will start their quest this Tuesday after having a bye to start their slate of games.
District 28-4A has just 5 schools and so the formula for making the playoffs is simple….be better than one team and you are in.
The Boys can accomplish that feat if they take Hondo on the road in two weeks but a bigger prize is placing higher in the pecking order to draw a lower seed for their first round of playoff games.
Last year, Canyon Lake stamped their first playoff ticket ever and found out that going, as a 4th seed, reduces the chances of playing more than one contest.
The Lady Hawks have found out that this district is full of good teams as Hondo won their game over CL and that same Owl’s team was beaten by Bandera which will give you an idea of how high of a climb the Hawks will have to travail in reaching a playoff realm.
Canyon Lake will play Fredericksburg on Tuesday and at the end of December the Billies beat the Hawks in Burnet. Now the Hawks will have to concentrate on Bandera on Friday in order to realize a legit chance of having more games after district play ends.
Soccer balls were kicked all over the hill country last week as the Lady Hawks played a season of games in a short period of time and this week will have a chance for a little rest with two scheduled contests.
Coach Ryan Tierney was so busy last week, he did not have time to get scores to The ReSporter in time but it turned out to be a good set of games.
The Lady Hawks beat SA Cole and Lampasas while tying Marble Falls and starting the Fredericksburg Tournament with their only loss to Burnet, 1-0. Canyon Lake has a 4-3-1 record going into this week’s of action.
Boy’s Soccer, has a 3-2 count as they will be all geared up for hosting Canyon Lake Classic Tournament this week starting on Thursday and ending on Saturday.
The Hawks finished 2nd in last week’s Pleasanton Tournament with wins over Floresville and host Pleasanton before falling to Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North, 4-2. Not a bad loss when your opponent plays with the big boys in District 31-6A.
Both Soccer teams face off with tough district opponents in Boerne and Fredericksburg each year, so finding out how you stack up with larger schools will never be a bad thing. Losses this time of year is not as important as honing your skills for district play.
CL’s JV Boys Soccer team will also be in action in the CL Classic this week.
