Musical Chairs for Soccer Coaches as Coach Tierney takes over Boy’s Team
Canyon Lake played musical chairs with their Soccer Coaches as Ryan Tierney the girls coach will now be moving to the Boy’s Soccer team after Head Coach Warren Graham will be stepping down.
Coach Graham had a great 4 year run for the team but his family took priority and providing for them caused the decision for leaving after school is finished.
The Hawks had improved immeasurably during the Coach Graham’s tenure as it has been mentioned in previous articles as the win totals had doubled during those four campaigns from a 2 win first year to finish in the Sweet 16 this past season. A 2-1 loss to Progresso will give you an idea of how close this team was to making the Elite 8 in the Start of Texas.
The ReSporter caught up with Coach Ryan Tierney about his new job when the school year starts back up.
The ReSporter: Hello Coach, congrats on your new job, tell us your thoughts on the change?
Coach Tierney: “I am excited beyond belief to be the next head boys soccer coach here at Canyon Lake High School. Coach Warren Graham was an amazing colleague and an amazing coach. I learned a lot about soccer form him and I have the utmost respect for him. He has made a decision that will benefit his family and I respect that in all regards. He himself told me that it will be hard to leave coaching here at Canyon Lake. He enjoyed the sport, but more than anything he enjoyed working with the kids. It is sad that he has to go and I will miss him.”
The ReSporter: What are your thoughts for the team next season?
Coach Tierney: “I do plan carrying on what Coach Graham has done here in the past 4 years. If I can do half the job that he did, we should be well off. I plan on starting a new chapter to the boys program. I have wanted to move to the guys side ever since I new I was going to have a son, and now that he is here and growing so quickly I had to jump at this opportunity. I want to build a program that my son will be proud to be apart of.”
The ReSporter: It will be tough having coached the girls and then moving over to the boys side, what are your thoughts on that scenario?
Coach Tierney: “It was a tough decision to make. The girls program was my first head coaching position. I developed relationships with many of the athletes and not being able to coach them will be hard. I believe without a doubt that the Canyon Lake girls soccer team will be successful next year because of the hard work that they have put in. I thank each and every one of them for giving me everything as a coach.”
The ReSporter: Do you have any details on who will take your place?
Coach Tierney: “As of this moment I do not have any details on who the new girl’s head soccer coach will be.”
The ReSporter: Thanks Coach and take it easy this Summer as the new school season will be here before you know it.
