The Lady Hawk’s Basketball team split their two games played on Thursday at the Austin Crocket Tournament.

Freedom Mail Center says Way to go Lady Hawks!

St. Michaels Episcopal was CL’s first loss of this season while the night cap had the Hawks facing a District 28-4A foe in Hondo and winning in a comfortable game, 34-20.

St. Michaels was by far the most explosive team the Lady Hawks have competed against this season as CL found themselves down 14 points, 33-19 going into halftime. A little more competitive in the 2nd half but the damage had already been done.

Senior Reagan Heun led Canyon Lake in scoring 23 points while Caroline Kullberg was back in the line-up shooting 2 for 2 from the floor and perfect from the foul line on one shot.

Hondo was next up and facing a district companion this early in the year will have coaches not being as honest with who and what they will be doing when the season gets longer in the tooth. The thinking is not showing much so the district showdown does not have teams with enough to scheme for.

Two losses to the Owls last season, 47-43 and 62-43, will let teams know this might be a different outcome this go-round. Canyon Lake fielded a very young team last year with just one Senior and now those freshman and rest of the crew will be ready for a different outcome.

Chelsea Tschoepe finished with 14 points to lead the Hawks while teaming up with Senior Alexa Ramos in forcing 8 steals in this contest.

Canyon Lake pulled their head back in their shell like a turtle in the second half after crafting a 27-12 lead going into halftime. The Owls were playing in the sun as their eyes did not allow them to see the basket in scoring 20 points for the game.

Hondo’s best scoring quarter was their first after totaling 8 in their first 8 minutes of play.

Canyon Lake will back in action today when they will face, Lampasas at noon and then McCallum’s game will have a 5pm tip-off.

The Hawks will go into today’s game sporing a 5-1 record.

Go Hawks!!
