Boy’s Soccer: Hawks Can’t Finish in Tie with SA Christian, 0-0
The Canyon Lake went to battle against San Antonio Christian for the 3rd time in a season that the Hawks have completed 7 contests.
With no surprises, The Lake, had the same conclusion a 0-0 tie as each of the players can now start a pen-pal communication with their friends that wear a different jersey.
Those previous two matches finished with a 1-1 deadlock and then in that 2nd battle the lock was opened as both schools played for a Championship in the recent Canyon Lake Tourney that had the Hawks winning on a tie-breaker shoot-out, 5-4.
Head Coach Cody Schroeder said after being asked if the team is showing improvement in those past 3 games with SAC, “We are moving in the right direction, playing a team 3 times in 12 days left both teams knowing each other well but we still created new opportunities in trying to break the ties.”
CL had several opportunities in the 2nd Half of play to have a lead with a Penalty Kick from 12 yards out being rejected by SAC’s Goalie.
Senior Josh Sczech had a chance as the QB of the offensive attack that gave CL those opportunities that just missed that one goal needed for a win.
“We definitely have been improving,” Sczech started. “The competition was tough but we could not finish and we will work on that since we will need to finish strong but I could not ask for anything more except for a win!”
Those wins certainly have a chance of being realized as the Hawks are allowing 0.86 goals per game with a 1.57 scoring average per contest at this stage of the schedule.
The Hawks will be on the road this Tuesday when they play Pleasanton and the next home game with Gonzales on Friday.
Next week will be the final non-district week before district play starts in earnest on February 9th at home when Wimbo comes across the Back-Bone!
Let’s Finish Hawks!!
