Canyon Lake Basketball had a tough week after suffering two losses by a combined 5 points.
In that first game last Tuesday against Fredericksburg, The Lake found their mojo too late coming up short in this 3 point set-back.
The Billies lost to CL during that first round but were up for the task in reverting that outcome.
That Friday game with Davenport saw the Hawks blitz the Wolves in that opening quarter scoring a, 21-7 quarter and that lead would hold up to the 2 minute mark of the final stanza.
Too many turnovers led to 22 points by Davy and what would prove a hard fought loss.
Carter Williams was all over the court with his 3rd double-double in a row after scoring 19 points, 14 rebounds and 5 steals. In the past two battles Williams’ has a combined 38 points (67%), 26 rebounds and 9 steals.
“We went spurts where we played the best we’ve played all year,” Coach Monte Cole started. “Davenport is a really good team but turnovers continue to be what we battle. It didn’t feel like quite as many careless turnovers. They forced us into some and wore us down in the 4th.”
On how Williams played, “Kids played hard, Carter (Williams) was the best player on the floor pretty much the entire game.”
Canyon Lake will have two more action packed games this week starting with Bandera Bulldogs who are presently tied with The Lake for 3rd place in district play. With a sweep this week, Canyon Lake, will secure the 3rd seed and leave 3 teams fighting it out for that final spot. (Bandera, Wimberley & Fredericksburg)
“(We) will have full focus on Bandera now. Big game,” Coach Cole finished.
The Standings above give you an idea of what is in front of CL as they try to secure a post-season berth.
