13th Ranked CL Lady Hawks Soccer Take on Wimberley Tuesday

Canyon Lake Hawks take the field against Texans at The Lake on Tuesday! Go Hawks!

Canyon Lake Ladies Soccer (9-1) will start their district season tomorrow hosting Wimberley (6-3-2) with the game starting at 7:00pm.

The Hawks are rated 13th according to the Texas Girls Coaches Association Soccer Poll posted January 29th.

Presently there is just one team with a losing record and an always tough Boerne (10-0-1) still has an unblemished record.

Two years ago the Hawks season ended in the 3rd round after coming just one goal short tying Boerne and a chance to continue that magical season.

CLHS is led offensively with Sophomore Savanna Olberholtzer with 22 goals and 4 assists and Senior Gabi Pace with 10 goals and 9 assists.

The ReSporter caught up with Head Coach Kara Stracener for her thoughts on how this year has started.

Let’s Go Hawks!!

The ReSporter: A good season so far but common opponents was Benbrook and Godley. What happened in that game keeping the Hawk ladies from scoring and win?

Coach Stracener: “At this point in the season we were still figuring out formations and who to play in what position, figuring out how to work together…”

The ReSporter: District has every team but one with a winning record how do you see this season going for those 4 playoff spots?

Coach Stracener: “District will be tough. The top teams will be organized, athletic, well coached and experienced. I think we are contenders for those top spots for sure. I think we could surprise some people.”

Way to GO 13th Ranked HAWKS!!

The ReSporter: Davenport and Boerne are the only two district opponents that have allowed less goals than CL…what are your thoughts on those two schools and how we might stack up when we play them?

Coach Stracener: “I think we will give them a run for their money! I know we will be able to put pressure on them offensively. We need to be able to stay disciplined on defense and focused for 80 minutes which is sometimes hard for a young team. I have a hard working group, so they are up for the challenge.”

The ReSporter: What have you noticed thus far this season?

                          Go Hawks!!

Coach Stracener: “The girls have exceeded my expectations this season so far…after losing 9 seniors and another junior graduating early, we have a small squad. They have a great time playing together, so that makes them enjoyable to watch.”

Way to Go Hawks and Beat Wimberley!
