               =====================================================

It was a very good week for The Lake with the Tennis team starting their season with two wins in impressive fashion. 10-2 victories for wins over Luling and Sequin. (Results against Navarro is not known)

Tennis will be back in action August 28th with a match against Davenport.

Volleyball started the season with a win over Marion and then finished 3rd in their Silver Bracket at the Corpus Christi Spike-Fest.

Losses to Gregory Portland and SA MacArthur and wins against Rockport, CC Moody, Bastrop, and Southwest Legacy.

Last year Volleyball finished with 7 wins and almost made that mark in their first week. The Lake will be in action this Tuesday against Poth and then their 2nd tourney at Pieper.

Water Polo swept Fox Tech when the Ladies won their first game of competition, 12-7 with the leading scorers being Macy Gill and Rianna Gonzalez with 6 goals a piece. Delaney Hersel and Mariah Mendoza shared the goalie duties.

                      Way to Go Hawks!!

“The team (lady Hawks) performed superbly,” Head Coach Page Small quipped. “This win was the first team win and we accomplished during first game of the season. The team is much improved.”

For the Boys, Levi Garner was leading scorer with 7 goals while Goalie Greyson Patton with 15 saves.

“The Boys are off to a 1-0 record similar to the girls and appear to be further along than this time last year,” Coach Small said. “Everyone played a lot of minutes in this game, great start to the season.”

The Lake’s Football team slugged it out with Burnet last Friday and will have their final scrimmage at the Hawk Nest this Friday against Central Catholic. This night will begin with the Freshman and Junior Varsity 5:30pm and then Varsity will start at 7:00pm.

Overall a great start for the Fall Sports. Way to GO HAWKS!!

CL Hawk’s Girls Soccer Exceeded Expectations

Sunday, April 14th, 2024

Lady Soccer is Area Champs after 8-0 win over SA JFK. Go Hawks!!

The Canyon Lake Lady Soccer team had a successful season with a record 18 wins this year after losing a good senior class in 2023.

                Way to Go Hawks!!

Playing in one of the toughest districts in the state, The Lake was able to hold on and qualified with a 4th place finish. Yes, a Bi-District win over a Burnet team that finished first in their district would give a taste on how hard of a road this young team traversed.

The ReSporter caught up with Soccer’s Head Coach Kara Stracener for her thoughts after bowing out in the third round in the playoffs.

The ReSporter:  First, would you comment on your seniors and what they meant to CL’s team?

Coach Stracener: “As I told the team last night after our loss…when our seniors were freshman was the start of this program becoming a winning program.  Their hard work and leadership have been a huge part of the success of the past four years and setting the tone and the bar for players that continue to come through.”

The ReSporter:  Did you reasonably expect to make it this far this season based on the youth of the team and why or why not.

Go Hawks & Way to Fly High!!

Coach Stracener: “The team surpassed my expectations this year…with only 9 returners the freshman and new to Varsity came in and made an immediate impact and continued to improve and grow as players and as a team throughout the season.”

The ReSporter  What are you expecting for the new crop of players from middle school, I have heard this class has some more good lady athletes.

Coach Stracener: “I am excited for these 8th graders.  I think there is a good group that has a lot of potential.  With high school soccer, just like this year, there are always a few potential freshman that can come and compete for spots on Varsity.”

The ReSporter: What will be your main concerns for building next year’s team?

                              Go LAKE!

Coach Stracener: “I don’t know if they are concerns, but the big things to think about each year are…what roles and holes do we need to fill that the seniors left?  After that we start thinking of who can fill those roles and holes. And then formation(s) we can possibly play to play to our strengths, which can typically change throughout the season.”

The ReSporter: Any other thoughts that you would like to share? that would be great for the Hawk Nation to know….

Coach Stracener: “It was a record-breaking year!  We had more wins in program history (18) the past two years we have had 13 wins, more goals in program history (106) last year we had 81, Savanna broke the goals in a season record (55) her sister set it the last two seasons with 30 and then 32, and she also broke goals in one game (6) her sister had it last year with 5, and then we had our first tournament championship win ever at the Katy i-10 Shootout in preseason.”

More good times on the horizon and as always, Way to Go Hawks!!
