Boy’s & Girl’s Soccer is in High Gear

Hawk Soccer is going well early in the season as both Girls and Boys have shown flashes of break out games.

Girls Soccer finished 2nd in the Pleasanton Tournament and just missed a chance for a 1st Place Trophy.

“We did well this past weekend by achieving a second place finish,” Head Coach Ryan Tierney stated. The girls won their first game against Beeville Jones, 4-0 and then beat Pleasanton, 2-1.”

Rachel Bennett had 2 goals in that first game and Chloe Cullen and Brandi Schimonsky finished out the scoring with a goal a piece.

Bennett would respond in that second game with Pleasanton scoring to start the second half and then having the winning goal with 18 seconds on the clock.

La Vernia beat CL Hawks, 1-0 in the Championship game as Canyon Lake had many opportunities for getting on the board but it was one of those games where the Bear Goalie being at the right spot.

“The Bears were a physical team,” Coach Tierney recounted. “We had the possession the majority of the game but missing shots and a poor bounce off our keeper led to our loss.”

Coach Tierney continued, “We still had a great tournament and played well.”

Canyon Lake Ladies lost a heart breaker on Tuesday of this week to a 6A School in SA East Central, 1-0 and are now playing in the Fredericksburg Tournament starting on Thursday night.

The Hawk Boys got back on the winning track beating Florence, 5-1 on Tuesday of this week.

Grayson Rohrbacher scored 2 goals and James Alexander, Mason Blackburn, and Jordan Sczech each had a goal to finish out the scoring.

Alexander, Blackburn, Trenton Lorett and Matthew Bell each had an assist as there were several players getting into the scoring column.

“I think this win will be a huge confidence booster,” Head Coach Warren Graham started. “We had at least, 70% of the possessions and we moved the ball well, our passes were sharp, and our touch when receiving the ball was good.”

That was good to see as the Hawk’s last game had little to brag about.

“Those four things are part of what contributed to Friday’s night loss,” Coach Graham assessed. “It was good to see that we were able to fix those issues.”

The Hawks will continue their season with a game tomorrow on Friday the 13th and hopefully see if a Black Cat can cross in front so there will be no excuses.
