Final Scrimmage with Elgin & Wimberley Next

Coach Lancaster gives thought to CL’s Junior Varsity after Elgin Scrimmage.

Canyon Lake next step on the ladder will be Wimberley after finishing their 2nd scrimmage in Elgin on Friday night.

                               Go Hawks!!

On this night the Hawks had a much better start from their Sub-Varsity to Varsity teams.

“Yeah, that’s the key in the preseason is to get better every week and I think we took a foot forward from last week,” Head Coach Charley Drum stated. “From last week we looked sharper in the game defensively and offensively…we still gave up a big play or two but they had some big play type of guys but it was some good work for us but we still have a lot of work to do before we take on Wimberley next week.”

The Lake has excelled in both live play scrimmages these past two weeks which was certainly the case on this night. This might be a good indicator on how well the Hawks might play during those end of a game nail biters.

“Yeah hopefully… you know we haven’t played four quarters yet and it’s going to be a test next week especially in the heat we are having this time of year. But I’m proud of the way we have executed with the coaches off the field and we would rather see them execute when we are not on the field.”

In fact the stats below will show how dominating The Lake was during their two live quarters. That last quarter had a running clock and in that first stanza the clock was similar to a regular timed game.

The Hawk defense forced a 3 play and punt sequence to start and then CL’s offense took 5 plays to move 57 yards and a James Garza one yard TD.

                        Let’s GO HAWKS!!

A first play pass from Crowder to Carter Williams was good for 46 yards and a score 4 plays later.

CL’s defense gave up one first down on the Wildcats next drive but then a Trevin Cutrer 20 yard sack finished this drive with another punt.

A Hawk touchdown drive taking 4 plays covering 65 yards that featured 2 pass plays for 28 yds and 34 rushing yards that kept the chains moving.

Kaiden Lewis had two bruising runs for 34 yards during that scoring drive that ended with a Caden Rodriguez 21 yards catch for a, 13-0 Hawk lead that would stand.

      Canyon Lake ‘Hawk’ Proud!!

The Hawks ended the last live quarter on Elgin’s 1 yard line as they let the clock run out…but ended the game with a 13-7 advantage.

CL Hawks showed improvement compared to their earlier scrimmage and Cuero was a cut above these Wildcats. Elgin is picked 4th in their district according to Texas Football Magazine and will start their season next week against an opponent known to the Hawk Nation in Lampasas.

That should give an indication on how one district team compares to your Hawks.

Canyon Lake’s Sub-Varsity will be at the Hawk Nest next Thursday and the Varsity will

Let’s Go Hawks!!
