                   Keep it Going Hawks!!

The Lake had a decent week after a successful Hawk Lady Soccer conquest of Legacy Ranch winning in a thriller extra-time contes, 5-3.

Now an Area Round will be tomorrow at Smithson Valley against San Antonio Cole with a 7:00pm start.
The Lake Soccer should be The Hawk Nation hit list with this contest that’s within getting to distance as this crew of ladies continue their historic season after reaching the 20 win and 100 goal standard in last week’s Bi-District win.

Baseball will enter their district schedule this week playing Wimberley with that first pitch away and then return for a home contest against the Texans on Friday. Look at Standings below.

                                     GO LAKE!

Track & Field were in Fredericksburg last week and will be at the Texan’s Relays this Thursday.

District will also be at the Billie Stadium with a Monday April 6th and Wednesday 8th.

Softball continues growing pains with their young team as they continue to improve during their district slate.

Let’s GO LAKE!

Lake’s Lady Soccer Beat Legacy Ranch, 5-3 in Extra Time.

Saturday, March 21st, 2026

The Lake’s Soccer Team with another Bi-District Trophy & Looking for an Area Trophy next.

          Way to Go Lake Soccer!

Canyon Lake’s (20-2) Soccer team won Bi-District in overtime over Legacy Ranch (17-5-1), 5-3 in what turned out to be a good test run for this time of the year in a, win or go home’, time of the season.

Head Coach Kara Stracener commented on this win and the differences in LR’s offense,
“We haven’t played a team that played with that formation where they had two wide players and a center…they had 3 across the top….so we knew about it going into the game but then when you see it you just have to re-adjust and at halftime we certainly talked about that and we changed some of our formations and put some girls where we needed to and they adjusted great but more importantly they battled and played with their heart in this kind of game you have to do that.”

Coach Stracener continued on how important Liza Schexnayder goal-tended, “She was unbelievable….she is brand new to soccer and she’s learning throughout the whole season and against Bandera our second time she came out and made a very physical save and had to take a player as she was taking the ball and I think that type of moment from her was huge and she felt what is was like so she could do it in this game….and she did that four or maybe five times and she was a hero tonight for sure.”

             Go Lake Beat Everyone!

The Lake had never scored more than 100 goals in a season since the school began in soccer in 2008-09 year.

Two years ago CL was able to reach 93 goals…but now Savanna Oberholtzer with her 61 makes has scored 59% of this offense.

All those numbers are mind blowing but in the grand scheme of things that first goal in this battle had Abigail Lowth with a goal which was a head(er) and should(ers) as great, at the 36 minute mark, during that first half.

Then, that first goal in overtime, it was Kylee Morrow who had a 27 yard pk that just went over the Legacy Ranch goalie hands on the left corner of the upper shelf of the net.

                              Go Lake!

The Hawks never trailed in this contest and the score was a narrow, 3-2 at halftime lead.

In that 2nd Half both teams were more defensive minded but it was Ranch with a tying goal right under 10 minutes remaining, 3-3.

It was Goalie Liza Schexnayder who battened down the Hawk goal as she won several one on one shots on goal from the 15 yard line on down.

The Lake would not have been in a position to pull this game off without her unwavering defensive skills and her bumps and bruises in the days to come will prove her worth in this battle.

District 26-4A has been a formidable group of teams these past few years in looking back to last year when both Wimberley & Davenport being present in the Final Four in Division I and II.

Go Hawks & Beat SA Cole!

The Lake’s, 2-1 loss last season to London just kept Canyon Lake from meeting Wimberley for that berth into the Final Four.

All of these district qualifying teams won their Bi-District round of games and once again stand a good chance of getting two more schools in for a chance to win state.

Canyon Lake’s Area contest will be at Smithson Valley High School this coming Tuesday against San Antonio Cole (20-4-4) at 7:00pm.

The Hawks have reached 20 wins for the first time to go along with breaking that 100 goals scored mark. Now keeping this Post-Season focused will be next on the docket as Wimberley could be that final hurdle in getting to Austin.

Hawk’s Baseball Win Final Game Before District, 8-6 Over Taft Raiders

Saturday, March 21st, 2026

Ryan Rena and The Lake prepare for their first pitch in district play in Wimberley next Tuesday.

                          Let’s GO LAKE!

The Hawks wrapped up their non-district schedule after a win over the Taft Raiders, 8-6 that was an up and down affair that CL was able to start and finish with more ‘UPs’ in an eventual win.

“We got out hit yesterday however we got hits with runners in scoring position, which was big,” Head Coach Victor Escamilla said in response to win.

On the Lake pitching, “CJ (Rodriguez) did a great job on the mound coming in relief and Ryan (Rena) threw strikes.”

Those comments gives a good idea of what The Lake’s Coaches are looking for as district comes calling next Tuesday in Wimberley.

But It was the Raiders. that took a, 1-0 lead to start this battle after a one-out walk that came around to score on a Raider double.

            Make us Proud Hawks!

That lead would evaporate in CL’s 2nd frame as those ‘bunch of run innings’ presented itself when 7 of the first 8 Hawk batters reached base and that one out was having pitcher, Ryan Rena (3-0) with a successful bunt.

The Lake took a, 4-1 lead they would not relinquish for the remainder of this contest.

Taft was able to get back in this game in their bottom of the 4th inning after a one our walk that was followed with a double and two singles and a Hawk, 5-4 lead going into the 5th inning.

Rena got the win in this game and CJ Rodriguez had his first save in his 3 innings of work allowing one earned run pitching those final 3 innings.

                    Let’s GO LAKE!

The Lake’s Rena had 4 quality at bats reaching base on 3 walks and laying down his first sacrifice bunt of the year.

Cullen Barnhart continues his hot bat that included a 3 run double with two outs in the top of the 6th frame. All the Hawk runs reached base on walks~~ around the bases and a lead that would produce enough separation for this Canyon Lake win.

CLHS has had several games of scoring 3 or 4 runs in an inning as their pre-district contests conclude.

The Lake has scored 3 or more runs in 23 of their 90 frames thus far or, 26% of the time while by increasing that up to 4 runs per inning and The Lake has reached that level 15 times for or, 7% of the time.

These Hawks have used 9 different players on the pitching mound which is quite a bit more than in previous campaigns.  Hopefully Coaches can find those diamonds in the rough when district starts.

By the Numbers Before District Play:
 6 Players with 10 or more rbi’s.
 7 Total homers thus far.
8 Times Gram Simpson has been hit by pitch (hbp)
9 Players with 10 or more hits.
 9 Sacrifice Flies.
11 Players that have over a .500 on base pct. (obp)
14 More strikeouts than walks for Hawk pitching.
20 More walks than strikeouts.
21 Hayes Holladay leads with strikeouts.

Lady Hawk Soccer Works on Finding an Unfamiliar Goal

Thursday, March 19th, 2026

                   Congrats Lake Soccer!

Canyon Lake Ladies’ Soccer (19-2) start their next phase of the season when they welcome Legacy Ranch (17-3-1) to the Hawk Nest on Friday for a Bi-District contest with first kick at 6:30pm.

Legacy Ranch was a Canyon Lake opponent last year as district second seed behind Wimberley’s 1st seed finish which added more familiarities with this first round contest.

Post-Season has also been a familiar happening for The Lake as they have been active for five years now in getting to a 3rd round. The Lake has an, 8-5 playoff record, during this run, but there is one facet of a post-season having one familiarity to be jettisoned during this campaign.

The Lake has not been able to clear that 3rd hurdle on their march for a final 4 destination. Four of those last five years, The Lake, has finished their season in that 3rd round play-off game.

Year Bi-District Area Semi-Regional
2021 Gateway 3-1 Pleasanton 2-1 Boerne 1-7
2022 Montopolis 7-1 Jones 6-1 Boerne 1-2
2024 Burnet 1-0 JFK 8-0 Davenport 2-5
2025 Legacy 6-1 Floresville 5-1 London 1-2
2026 Legacy ???

The Lake’s loss against Davenport kept that elusive District Championship Ring from happening but that bigger prize is certainly still out there to grasp.

                       Let’s Go Hawks!

“The loss to Davenport is a humble reminder that we have to work hard for every win.” Head Coach Kara Stracener stated. “We will use it to fuel us to be better for this next game.”

Which will be a home game giving, The Hawk Nation,  a chance to show their support for one of the best season’s of any Hawk sport in the last 16 years.

On facing a familiar opponent and what has been The Lake’s approach after a week of rest Coach Stracener quoted, “We knew right away we would be facing Legacy Ranch…we have gone back to a few basics to review some things that we need to improve on for this game and then some specifics on how to attack and defend them.”

                     Break the Dam~ Lake!

A new school at Liberty Hill that has put good seasons together in their short span. The Ranch won their district with their only set-back coming in a tie with Burnet. This team has a lot of fire power as they have scored 111 goals this season.

Legacy Ranch played a high ranking team to start this season losing to Life Waxahachie, 2-6 but playing in a district that has 11 schools does not allow teams to play more out of district foes.

On Coaches thoughts on how this regular season went.  “I’m so proud of this team.  To only have two losses on the season and both to teams that were at the state Tournament last year is very impressive.  The girls are hungry and ready to play tomorrow.”

The Lake’s district has proven they can reach the final four and now getting past that 3rd playoff opponent would go a long way to realize that same dream.

So those familiarities has a chance to continue as the UIL Brackets has those same schools that The Lake played last year.

Last season Canyon Lake tied Wimberley twice and that next step happened this year after beating the Texans at their abode which certainly gives hope legs for that bigger prize.

So come out tomorrow for Canyon Lake’s opening act to reach past a familiar goal to a higher goal.

Let’s GO LAKE!

The Hawks were led with big performances on the mound from Kobe Halverson, Jace Mcgoldrick, Rowan Edwards & Jacob Little during these past tournaments and big offensive games from those players.

                    GET HITS HAWKS!

This week has less sports being in action than the Spring Break last week.

Baseball & Softball have front and only stage this week with both sports playing this Friday with Softball already being involved with their district schedule.

This Friday Softball will be battling at Long Creek with start time 6:00pm. Softball lost a ton of athletes to graduation last year and are presently one of the youngest Lake teams this spring.

Baseball will have their Gold JV team welcoming in Somerset’s JV team with first pitch at 430pm today.

CL’s Varsity Baseball and Green Squad will travel to San Antonio to play Taft High School with in a double header involving The Lake’s Green starting at 4:30pm and Varsity first pitch commencing at 6:30pm.

Last week, Canyon Lake’s Girls Soccer finished second in district after losing a close battle to Davenport, 2-1.

                                  GO LAKE!

The Hawk’s have the smallest district in Region IV with 6 schools while other districts, like the Bi-District opponents in the Austin area still shooting it out with 10 schools in their group.

The Lake finished with their best regular season sporing a, 19-2 record and will be the 2nd seed in the smaller school bracket.

At this writing CLake’s opponent would be between. Gateway. Lago Vista, or Jarrell. Last year, The Lake played Gateway from that district but more elimination bouts still needed to be decided.

Baseball finished last week with a, 2-1 record as this Friday’s contest with Taft being that last warm-up battle before meeting up with Wimberley in a week.

Records of District 26-4A Baseball is below:

CL Hawks Finish With 3-1-1 Record in Comal Clash Tourney

Monday, March 9th, 2026

Greysen Patton is now 2-0 after shutting down Beeville Jones @ Comal Clash Tourney.

Canyon Lake matched their first 15 games last year with an, 11-3-1 record and now this Hawk team can hopefully finish with a better second half after last year’s squad finished, 14-10.

This past week, The Lake finished their Comal Clash contests sporting a, 3-1-1 record based on having a deeper pitching staff than their competition.

This year’s team has amassed a, 2.70 earned run average (era) and presently show 4 different pitcher’s with 2 wins. The mayo is more evenly spread across this bread than last year’s edition that had Carter Williams getting the rock as many times possible.

This has Head Coach Victor Escamilla working on all his chess moves before district gets going in two weeks against Wimberley.

Still way too many base on balls and errors that could derail district contests as CL’s hitting usually starts a slight decline when league contest get going. So those first two of the baseball trinity will need to diminish playing those district games.

                              Go Lake!

“Our pitching part has become clearer, “Coach Escamilla said in response to his assessment of where the team is at this time. “Offensively I think we are very streaky individually and we want to have some of that consistency but as we put more games together things are becoming clearer. We also need those guys who are come in when we have a different pitcher… and we need to have an extra outfielder or extra middle fielder or whatever it may be and those things are cleaning up a bit.”

When asked bout how well the catching has been with Wayen Slania-Wertz and Archer Miller behind the plate, “We’re fortunate to have those two…they are young and they’ve got a lot of upside and we are  excited to have both of them.”

                          Go Hawks!

Hayes Holladay is working on a streak of reaching base 9 games in a row and has reached base in all but one contest this season while Archer Miller had his  5 game hitting streak halted in CLake’s final game with San Antonio Wagner.

Gram Simpson has 64 runs for his career and that has him ranked 5th on that All-Time list…he needs 5 more to be placed 3rd behind Hunter Anderson and Carter Williams who each reached 91 runs scored during their careers.

Ryan Rena (31) is 11 rbi’s from breaking into Top 10 status with RBI’s.

Simpson ranks 3rd in walks behind Tyler Pauly and Carter Williams who each reside with 62 base on balls. Rena is 10th on that same list with 38 walks.

Way to make some Good Hits!

Stolen bases has Simpson (17) at 9th needing 13 more to take the lead over Daniel Camarillo who last played during the 2012 season. Bryce May (12) and Holladay (9) could reach top ten with Chase Anderson’s 16 stolen bases who is 10th on that list.

Rena needs one more double to tie Logan Felch’s 14 and Waylen Slania-Wertz (10) still has 4 more but being a Sophomore could have his sights on reaching 22 that Carter Williams has that tops that list.

And finally, Simpson needs 5 and Lucas Schexnayder  8 to take the lead in that bruising stat called, Hit-By-Pitch, held by now an EMT Tanner Schultz’s (21)…that makes a lot of sense now based on his trade.

The Lake will use this week playing three contests going to Marion this Monday with a Noon first pitch and then will welcome La Vernia to the Hawk Nest Tuesday starting at 2:30pm.

A road game with Antonian Prep on Wednesday starting at 1:00pm with finish this week’s action.

Lady Lake Track Team Use a One~Two~Knock Out Punch in Wolves Meet

Eva Zabarcencu continues The Lake’s dominance in Distance Events.

Congrats Lady Hawk Track & Field!

The Canyon Lake’s Girls Track team does not possess depth like many schools they compete against.

District foe Fredericksburg is a school that always has a plethora of students in each event which allows this school to score well in most of their meets due to their amount of students competing.

Track scored the first 6 in each event and those athletes that finish 4th-5th-6th will in total add enough points for a team victory.

There were times in the past that the Billies would outscore The Lake by 50 or more points in district but lose many of those points as they competed in Area-Regional Meets.

            Way to GO FAST HAWKS!

That would allow CLake to score more points at the Regional Meet due to having enough Hawks scoring in those meets giving The Lake the edge over Freddie.

Canyon Lake has now won their last three meets, not with depth, but with star power.

This Wolves’ Meet had the same result involving 7 athletes who combined to score 131 of those points or 77% of that total of 170 points.

In this Meet The Lake finished first in 6 of the events led by distance runner Eva Zabarcencu’s win in the 1600-3200 meter runs.

                       Let’s GO FAR LAKE!

Te’a Gonzales, Kennedy Grindle and Aubrey Avey had two first place finishes that included the 4×100 meter relay.

This Meet was a One-Two Punch of sorts when taking in the days finished product.

In that 3200 run had Eva Zabarcencu and Sophie Eastland finishing 1st & 2nd.

100 meter dash had Gonzales & Savanna Oberholtzer finishing 1st & 2nd.

300 meter hurdles had Avey & Grindle finishing 1st & 2nd.

100 meter hurdles had Kennedy & Cutrer finishing 1st & 2nd.

Pole Vault had Gindle & Katelyn Lowth finishing 2nd & 3rd.

Those events add up to 86 points which has Canyon Lake finishing ahead of all but 2 other schools. The 2025 State Champion Randolph and 5A Kerrville Tivy.

                          Plug those Leaks Lake!

The Lake first place finish in the 4×100 relay was aided with a 3rd place 4×200 relay and a revived 4×400 relay who turned in their best finish this season finishing 2nd place.

So those three relays were a One-Two-& Knock-out Punch garnering, 38 points adding up to 124 points that topped Tivy’s 112 point final tally.

So, Freshman Sophie Eastland’s  6th Place (1 point) finish in her 1600 Meter Run would have Canyon Lake adding those depth point(s) up when facing tougher group of schools in the future.

The Lake will be off these next two weeks before finishing their last non-district meet in Wimberley on Thursday March 26th.

A short drive to watch a salty group of ladies before the meets that count  in April

Lady Hawk’s Soccer Make Wimberley UPSET in a, 3-1 Loss

Wednesday, March 4th, 2026

Hawks win at Wimberley, 3-1 to keep chance for a District Title.    Go Lake!

Way to Make us Proud Hawks!

Canyon Lake’s Ladies Soccer Made Wimberley UPSET-3-1 in a payback contest avenging that first district round loss for The Lake, 3-1.

The Hawks scored first in that first contest and Wimberley scored 3 goals in the second half for a win. Wimberley scored first during that second contest and The Lake responded scoring 3 goals in that second.

The ReSporter has this road win ranked in the Top 3 of All-Time including all Lake sports.

Looking at the rankings based on MaxPreps’ matrix below can give a good idea the distance between these two schools….yes, MaxPreps is by no means 100% accurate but seeing how they have info on schools all over…it does share an area code worth of schools with an approximate estimation.

Rankings Canyon Lake Wimberley
National 295 111
Texas 80 9
Section Region 4 29 6
Division 4A 4 1

These Texans certainly had an impressive resume by looking below showing just one team played, Lockhart… being under water record wise and not having any post-season aspirations.

Canyon Lake now has won a contest that shows they too might be in a position for a good run this playoff season.

                    Way to Go Lake!

“These girls are pretty humble but hard working…and honestly I am pretty hard on them,” Head Coach Kara Stracener stated. “I hope after last night and beating a really good team like Wimberley it brings them a new confidence going into these last few games of district and into post-season.”

Confidence would be that key word for this win as The Lake’s 3 goals was also the most scored against these Texans this season.

Savanna Oberholtzer scored the first two goals to start that 2nd Half and now has reached 54 with still 3 more district battles to add to her record setting season.

                   High Noon says GO LAKE!

“We knew that wasn’t our best half,” Oberholtzer stated when asked about being behind going into halftime. “It was s reality check and we set out to get to every ball first and then try to score.”

Oberholtzer scored two second half goals within an 8 minute span and then Kylee Morrow had a crowning shot from 25 yards from the left side of the goal that curved right over the Texan Goalies hands settling at the right-side of the goal with right at 4 minutes remaining.

“We were all excited,” Oberholtzer quipped when seeing Morrow’s shot. “This is a huge rivalry and it was exciting to see that we have a chance to finish first in district if we can win our next three games.”

               Way to Go Lake Soccer!

Coach Stracener’s parting shots, “Two of our goals were from over 25 yards and Kylee is a very unselfish and will pass many times over shooting….Glad she chose to shoot tonight cuz we needed her too. Like last time we played them we wanted to make it a messy game. Not allow them to get into a rhythm and try to frustrate them. We ‘weathered the storm’ the first half. Wimberley came out Very Strong and we struggled to get control of the middle….but halftime was a good reset and the girls did a fantastic job of digging deep and fighting back till the end. We played a good full 80 minutes this time around.”

Canyon Lake Hawk Proud!

Now The lake’s season goals are still attainable with this win having a chance for a district championship, going further in the playoffs and Canyon Lake’s 2026 squad now took the sole lead with wins in a season sitting with 17 so far.

The Hawks still have 3 games remaining and none of these battles will be a cakewalk which will equate in needing 3 more complete 80 minutes of game time.

Congrats and Way to GO LAKE!

Anthony Hockman reaching new Heights, 6-2 at Hawk Relays. Go High Hawks!

The Hawk’s Boys improvement from previous seasons is coming along as during this year those first meets to this last one in Navarro is showing promise as this season continues.

Hope for better results has been the goal.

“We are trying to build this program on the boys side back up to what it is ultimately capable”, Head Coach Brad Manning stated. “We had a core group of kids, particularly in the sprint group, that did the work last year, and made significant cuts in overall times and splits. That was so important, because our guys started to believe in their work. That core group knew that if they could make the same jump this year, that we could be competitive.”

             Go Lake Beat Everyone!

That certainly has been the case in scoring more points in this Panther Relay, “Yesterday was another chance to go out and hunt those times and splits down,” Coach Manning assess. “Some were able to do it, and some are still powering through with what we asking them to do in offseason for football, and with participation in other sports, the meet really becomes another practice for them. There were some really nice performances yesterday. Jace Morales is starting to really come on in his transition into track shape and did a nice job in the Open 100 and Open 200. Peyton King is continuing to prove he can become a horse in the 200/400’s for us. Joseph Matos continues to cut his split in the 4×400 each week, running a 51 as we continue to look at how the pieces will fit for that race. Jacob Stahla won the JV 110 hurdles, as he is proving to be a talented young runner. Cayden Toon placed 3rd in the Shot and Jacob Price placed 3rd in the Triple Jump, respectively.”

                            Break the Dam~ Lake!

Coach Manning closed looking to future meets, “As we get closer to the district meet, it will be about figuring out the right combinations of athletes and tapering them down to get maximum performance out of them and get as many events out of district as we can. We have a lot of work to do still, but I am proud of our improvement and look forward to what happens down the stretch.”

This meet had CLake scoring the most in those Jump Fielding events with 23 points followed with 20 points during the 3 relays.

Sprints (19) points and (16) in those distance runs were next using Cayden Toons throwing, 10 points.

While CL’s Junior Varsity was pretty even scoring 17 points in the distance runs, 16 points in relays, and 14 points scored during those two hurdle events.

The Lake will be back on the cinders this Thursday when they travel to Davenport for the Wolf Relays with start time at 1:00pm.
