CL’s Baseball Team found that they still have a ways to go in order to finish this season strong after suffering a one run loss to Wimberley and then succumbing to 5A Boerne Champion, 5-3 on Saturday.

                      Let’s  Go HAWKS!!

Were your goals accomplished in playing Boerne Champion? “We were wanting to give as many players as we could opportunities and we had a plan in place that we would use 3 pitchers,” Head Coach Victor Escamilla said.

This Champion game that comes right after the start of district play gives those non-starters a chance to make a statement and Brayden Welch playing in the outfield had remarkable diving catch saving a triple or an inside park homer which certainly raised some eyebrows. “Brayden is a good outfielder and we had to get a different look but it all starts with the guys on the (pitching) mound.”

“We have been talking about having a better start in district than we had last year,” Coach Escamilla continued. “We let our game with Fredericksburg get a way from us last year. Getting different looks was more important today and playing a team like this (Champion) will help give us an upper hand in district.”

The Hawks split their opening district series with the Texans for the 2nd year with all 4 contests being decided by one run.

                          Let’s  Go Hawks!!

CL’s top of the batting order continues with their hot bats but a slump has occurred down the order and will need to improve offensively for CL to have a chance of running the table like last year after that 2nd loss to Freddie last season.

Chance Anderson had 5 hits in his 8 plate appearances and that coupled with Hunter Anderson and Griffen Williams totaling 5 hits with 13 at bats would be 10 of the total of 13 base hits tells the story on how that might present problems in the future.

Defensively with 10 errors in these last three outings will and has hurt CL that gives opposing teams more at bats which has come to haunt in those losses.

Now Fredericksburg becomes a No. 1 priority!! Go Hawks!
